Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):
Where do I start? So, your wedding day has been set and now you are looking at the mammoth task of ‘project managing’ this event. Everyone wants their wedding day to be special, unique and just-perfect. Your wedding photographer will play a very important role throughout your wedding experience. Best photographers in the industry are much more than just a guy/gal who rocks up on the day and takes a few photos. Wedding photographers should help you with planning the day’s finer details and establish a good relationship with you (the couple) before the wedding day. Do your research. There are hundreds of blogs available on the web which provides guidance on how to choose your wedding photographer. I recommend that you read through atleast a couple of them. |
In your quest for the right wedding photographer, start with asking your friends and family who may have a recent good experience with a photographer. Referral is always a good indicator of a good photographer. After this, start looking on the web for wedding photographers in your city or suburb.
"The most important thing about looking for a photographer is to ensure you like the style of their photography." Do not get swayed by a few good images on their website. Good and experienced photographers will have several galleries on display, each with a good set of images of different events from the wedding. Once you short-list a few photographers, send them an email enquiring upon their availability and a quotation for your requirement (provide them with date, time, venue and duration details). Once your list is down to a handful of photographers, make an appointment to meet the photographer (not the studio sales person or the manager) who will be shooting your wedding. Ask to go through the complete set of photographs from atleast a couple of previous weddings. It is very easy to extract a few good shots from a wedding and display them. However, good photographers will be able to produce consistent and high quality result in all of the photos taken during the day. A few other factors to consider are: a. How is the end product provided to you. i.e. photos in high resolution (without watermark) on a media (DVD or a USB). Do they present the media in presentation box? b. How long would it take for you to receive the product. c. How much would they charge for travel, additional time and additional media (i.e. parent’s copy)? |
How much do I need to budget?
This is usually the first question that comes to one’s mind when planning for a wedding. This can be particularly hard as very few photographers advertise their prices. The reason for this is that every wedding is different – different rituals and customs, duration, timing, production requirement, etc. Please email us ([email protected]) with the date(s), timing and approximate duration of the event(s) and we will confirm our availability and email you with a price estimate which you can use to work out your budget.
Why is it to expensive to hire Wedding Photographers?
Wedding Photography is a highly skilled job. Although high prices are not always an indication of a good photographer, please understand that photography takes a lot of skill, years of learning and experience, expensive equipment upkeep and time – consultation, taking photos on the day, post production editing and then production. Usually, for every hour spent shooting, it takes 3 to 4 hours editing and producing the image to ensure high quality results.
How far in advance do we need to book?
It's best to start looking as soon as you’ve set your date. Good photographers are highly sought–after. In order to mitigate against disappointment of unavailability of your chosen photographer, best to make your decision and book as soon as possible.
Why do we have to pay in advance?
It is a normal practice for most professional service providers to request a deposit as a retainer of upto 50% of the wedding fee. The reason for the retainer is to ensure that the photographer you have chosen will be exclusively available to you on your chosen day. Also your photographer starts working for you from the day you confirm your booking, helping with planning & organising, location scouting etc. Wedding photography is a unique service and paying beforehand is the photographer’s insurance. The photographer has turned away many other weddings to do yours and if a couple separated before or shortly after the wedding day (which unfortunately is more common than you might think) the photographer would be left with a lot of unwanted photos and a huge loss of income.
Do we need to sign a contract?
With some studios/photographers, it is a common practice to make clients sign a contract. However, having to sign a legal document can be unnerving for a lot of us. Some photographers would also offer their Terms and Conditions as part of the quotation. Once you pay the deposit will generally act as you (as the client) agreeing to the Ts & Cs of the quotation. So please ensure that you have carefully read the quotation and the fine print of the photographer’s Ts & Cs. Either way, it is extremely important for you to have a formal document, be is a contract or a formal quotation (with the business name, ABN, date and emailed to you from the business email address), to ensure you can hold the photographer to account in-case things go wrong.
What is the best means of payment?
Photographers offer a variety of means of payment, including, bank transfers, credit card payment, paypal and cash. Some of these means may incur a service/transaction fee for the client. If you decide to pay cash, I recommend getting a receipt from the photographer.
