Intimate Implied Nude Boudoir Shoot in Low-Key Style
High-key lighting simply refers to images that are mostly bright, with a range of light tones and whites and not very many blacks or mid-tones.

Low-key refers to a style of photography that utilises predominantly dark tones to create a visually dramatic image. Where high key lighting seeks to over light the subject to the point of reduced contrast, low key lighting intensifies the contrast in an image through intensely reduced lighting. Photographers may use a single light to light your subject or a set of multiple lights and/or reflectors. The best effect is reached when you highlight the contour lines of the subject.

The key here is not just to produce a dark image but to use lighting selectively so that only specific portions of the image are illuminated. Normally the photographer will try to avoid harsh shadows, especially on faces and around the subject's eyes. For this reason, shooting low key can actually be a fun change of pace - for the subject and the photographer.
|
Instead of avoiding intense shadows, the photographer has to consider them as the primary element of the composition; one that defines the mood of the entire photograph. The trick then becomes manipulating the lighting and the positioning of the subject so that the shadows fall in just the right spots to create the look that your photographer want.
